Project Type: Remodel
The University of New Mexico Hospital Digestive Diseases Center project consisted of a remodel of an existing 13400 sq ft building for the relocation of the University of New Mexico Hospital Endoscopy Clinic.
The new facility design split the existing building footprint in half in order to accommodate all of the functions required by Title 7 Chapter 11 Part II of the New Mexico Administrative Code under one roof and off of the main University of New Mexico Hospital campus. The new layout consists of a clinic side which is used for standard patient exams, clinic administration, and staff and doctor offices. The exam side of the clinic is used for all patient procedures, housing of all medical equipment, pharmaceuticals, and medical gas. In order to perform all of the functions the exam side was required to be permitted as a ambulatory surgery clinic by the New Mexico Department of Health which significantly increases the complexity and importance of construction practices.
The project consisted of demolition of existing building finishes, cutting and removal concrete for new plumbing, structural modification to comply with Department of Health clearance requirement, demolition of all existing medial gas, metal stud framing, acoustical ceiling, vinyl flooring, VCT flooring, ceramic flooring, installation of new electrical work and associated panels and switch gear, installation of new medical gas, installation of new vacuum pump, installation of new fixtures, installation of new special systems including nurse call and patient monitoring, installation of new emergency exit with required egress.
