CMC Construction Services, a major fabricator of steel rebar was ready to expand their Albuquerque plant. After interviewing several construction companies through a competitive process, Michael S. Rich Contractors was selected for the expansion project.

We designed and constructed a 35,000 square foot structure which included two 5 ton and one 10 ton bridge cranes, which will allow CMC to better meet the growing demand for steel rebar.

To support the weight of the new cranes and their loads, we had to construct a foundation and overhead structure to tolerate the weight. The structure required the installation of 24 auger case piles, each 18” in diameter and buried 65 feet into the ground. The foundation itself required 1,600 yards of concrete which is the equivalent of 200 cement trucks. Adding to the difficulty of the project was that it required MSR to coordinate construction without interrupting the client’s operations.
